My family cat has the same problem, and price isn't an option if you want your cat to stay healthy. You need to acknowledge that the pills for thyroid are like an eighth of an inch, so swallowing shouldn't be a problem, plus my cat is only on a half a pill twice a day, so a whole bottle($40) lasts three months.

The methimazole tablet is so very small - my elderly guy takes his twice a day in a blob of cream cheese. He didn't care much for the flavored treats. It's worth getting a couple of methimazole tablets from the vet and seeing if she will take them in cream cheese or liverwurst (another popular item for many cats). Most cats love cream cheese, and it's easy to hide the piece of tablet inside. If that fails, try pill pockets. And if that doesn't work, then you still have the radiation as an option.

Those seem to be about the average price for the compounded meds and the radiation.

Unless you live in Japan very near the plant, they would be pointless, and actually dangerous.

Given the drastic difference in the prices and assuming treatment is not urgent and the lower priced options are adequately effective, you have nothing to lose by trying the lower priced options first.

Having been through the entire process myself - I recall I missed out on my radiation for almost a week as the only linear accelarater machine at the hospital broke down. I restarted my radiation and chemo at another hospital, not knowing when the machine would be repaired and the radiation could not wait. Missing out a week was ok - but I really do not imagine any doctor would even suggest that. In fact most oncologists clearly state the details of continuity for the radiation and the chemo as at the end of the ordeal - thats what is going to determine the success or failure. If your Aunts cancer has been detected in its early stages, it will more then likely be cured without too many problems. I wish her well.

Caprichoso.

PS - mI am not a doctor

Transdermal sounds good to me. . .
So sorry about the first person who answered! You should report them.
Anyway, have you tried pill pockets? You hide the meds in there. Works sometimes. Cats are notoriously hard to pill. You can also ask about getting a piller, which is basically a long stick that holds the pill on the end so you can release it when you're far enough into her throat.
You can also try to buy meds at a pharmacy online, like PetMeds, PetRX or Drs. Foster and Smith.

Doctors are using both chemo and radiation to try to give your Aunt the best chance. She needs to have some one take her to her treatments, then she doesn't have to try to get herself up and going. She also needs to let her doctor know how tired she is getting. He should run a new blood test, to see if he needs to be giving her something for her blood count. Good luck and all the best to your Aunt.
