How does potassium iodide protect against radiation ?
Tommy Two-tone asked:
We hear all these reports of the Japanese government and bunch of American idiots popping KI pills already. It got me thinking…how exactly does a salt protect the body against alpha and beta particles ? It makes no sense to me…and I know stuff. But apparently not enough stuff.
KI only protects the thyroid from absorbing radioactive iodide. It does nothing to protect the rest of the body.
it prevents radioactive iodine being taken up and concentrated in the thyroid so it only protects the thyroid
